When Raw Honey Turns to βSugarβ
Raw honey may crystallize after a few months of storage. This means that the honey gets a grainy or sugar-like texture. Crystallized honey is safe to eat and has the same taste.
To make the honey liquid again, use a gentle heating technique:
- Boil a pot of water and remove it from the heat.
- Place the container of honey in the hot water. Do not allow the water to reach the top of the honey container.
- Remove the container of honey after a few minutes. If it is still solid or crystallized, repeat the process.
Recommended Daily Amount of Honey
We recommend taking honey in a conscious and responsible way. Like any food, excessive intake of honey has its consequences, especially in a society where sugar consumption is already high.
Honey is a natural sweetener. But this does not mean that we can consume it without limits.
For a healthy person without weight problems and who does not base their diet on excessive consumption of sugars, a small spoon of honey a day can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet. This is approximately 10 to 12 grams of honey.
The appropriate amount will depend on the overall diet of the individual and the amount of sugar consumed from other foods and beverages during the day.
